About Paddle to the Sea Walk

Step back into a beloved childhood story on the Paddle to the Sea Walk in Nipigon. Many visitors remember reading Holling C. Holling’s classic Paddle to the Sea in school or watching the Oscar-nominated 1966 film adaptation, and this walk brings that nostalgia to life. Starting near Paddle to the Sea Park on 3rd Street, the trail follows Riverview Street, where a series of educational panels and themed playground stations retrace the journey of the tiny carved canoe as it makes its way toward the sea.

Along the route, walkers can pause to enjoy each panel and playground station, reliving the adventure from childhood while exploring Nipigon’s riverside scenery. Before the bridge where Riverview Street becomes Brennan Drive, the walk offers scenic views and spots to pause and reflect on the story’s journey. The trail culminates at the Nipigon Marina, where a Paddle to the Sea–themed playground next to the river invites children and adults reliving their own memories to play and engage with the story in a hands-on way.

The walk is perfect for families, school groups, or anyone wanting a nostalgic stroll that combines outdoor activity, playful learning, and a celebration of a story that has captured generations. Take your time to enjoy the panels, playgrounds, and river views, and reconnect with a piece of your childhood along the way.

Tip: Keep an eye on little ones near the water and playground areas for a safe, worry-free visit.
