About The Bridgeview Lookout Tower
The Bridgeview Lookout Tower is one of Nipigon’s most stunning viewpoints and a true symbol of the region’s connection to both land and water. Standing above the Nipigon River valley, the tower gives visitors a full panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including the Nipigon River Bridge, Lake Helen and the rolling wilderness that stretches toward Lake Superior. It is the kind of place where you can stand still, breathe in the northern air and feel the expanse of Superior Country all around you.
The tower is located just off Highway 11 / 17, near the striking Norval Morrisseau Monument, which honours the legendary artist born in this region. Morrisseau, a member of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek, is often called the father of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. The monument celebrates his connection to the land and the enduring influence of the Anishinaabe people who have called this area home for generations.
Visitors can also walk a section of the historic Portage Trail, which begins near the tower. This trail follows part of the same route once used by Indigenous travellers and early explorers moving between Lake Helen and Lake Superior. Along the way, interpretive signs share stories about the portage, the surrounding environment and the importance of the Nipigon River as a traditional waterway.
Climbing the Bridgeview Lookout Tower rewards you with a sweeping perspective of it all. From the viewing platform, you can see the twin cables of the bridge rising above the water, the curve of the river below and the forested hills beyond. It is a favourite stop for photographers, bird watchers and anyone who wants to take in the scale of the Nipigon valley.
The area around the tower is open to visitors year-round and easily accessible by car. There are picnic areas and benches nearby, making it a relaxing place to pause on a Lake Superior Circle Tour journey or a day trip through the region. Every season offers a different view: bright greens in summer, fiery reds and golds in autumn and crisp white panoramas in winter.
The Bridgeview Lookout Tower is more than just a scenic stop. It is a meeting point between culture, history and nature that helps tell the story of Nipigon and its people.
