About The Nipigon Marina

On the northernmost reaches of Lake Superior, at the 49th parallel, the Nipigon Marina is where adventure on the world’s largest freshwater lake truly begins. Just minutes from downtown Nipigon, the marina offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, small-town hospitality, and easy access to the open waters of Lake Superior and the mouth of the famous Nipigon River.

Boaters use the marina as a jumping-off point for exploring Lake Superior or heading upstream into the legendary Nipigon River. The river’s deep blue currents have carried canoes, fishing boats, and sailboats for generations. Long before highways connected northern communities, this was a route for Indigenous peoples, fur traders, and early explorers. You can almost feel that history in the breeze off the water.

On a warm summer morning, the docks hum with life. Someone is launching for a day of fishing, a pair of paddlers are loading their gear, and gulls and ducks flock around the breakwall. The Nipigon River Bridge rises in the distance, with its reflection in the glassy surface of the bay. It’s a scene that perfectly captures the blend of wild nature and small-town charm that defines Nipigon.

The marina offers seasonal and transient slips, a double boat launch, diesel fuel, electricity service (30-50 Amp), water and pump-out facilities. There are also everyday amenities nearby including laundry, groceries, ice and a liquor store. The facility is open from June 1 through Labour Day with the kiosk operating daily. After hours there is an honour-system or e-transfer payment option. It also boasts the distinction of being the most northerly freshwater port in North America, with a deep-water channel leading into the fully serviced marina. The Nipigon Marina is a designated access point for the Lake Superior Water Trail, and is equipped with an EZ Launch Accessible Transfer System for kayaks and canoes making it welcoming for all types of travellers and watercraft. Even if you’re not heading out on the water it’s worth stopping by simply to walk the iconic Nipigon River Recreation Trail, enjoy a picnic or take in the view of Lake Superior stretching to the south. Sunrises here are especially memorable, the kind that make you stop mid-step and just watch.

For travellers following the Lake Superior Circle Tour the Nipigon Marina is more than a place to dock; it is a moment of pause on the edge of something vast.
